My First Blog Post | Writer Diary

Posted by Phong To on Sat, Dec 17, 2022

Today, December 17, 2022, I began writing my first blog post. This is the introduction to my blog and the reason why this blog was created.

Why am I writing this blog?

The motivation

To begin with, everyone desires to have their own personal website to share with coworkers, employers, or anyone else to make a good first impression and show professionalism.

I’m also one of them. I created my own online CV, which is hosted as a static web page powered by GitHub Pages, but I can’t even remember the full path to my web pages. so that there is no chance that the others could remember my website address: https://vfon98.github.io/My-CV

So let start with something catchy and impressive.

The implementation

Starting with purchasing a personal domain vphong.com registered on CloudFlare. I move my old online portfolio to a new address, much shorter and easier for remembering. So that I can put it anywhere that I want.

Then I got an idea to organize my static sites as subdomains:

  • vphong.com: My single screen landing page, taking the responsibility of attracting first impression and giving shortcuts to navigate visitors to other pages.

  • cv.vphong.com: My online animated portfolio created from 2020.

  • blog.vphong.com: My personal blog that you’re currently in.

To realize the idea, some pages are already hosted on my GitHub repositories, while others need to be written from scratch. A little bit more modification needs to be applied.

And finally, I got my very first blog post posted and visible to you. Although it’s not too good as I expected, at least it’s my first success, I’m proud of it.

“Do something today that your future self will thank you for.”

Styling format

Why am I writing in English?

Firstly, although I am Vietnamese, I still want to have my blog written in English.

The reason is pretty simple: I want to improve my own English skills. Sometimes, I might get wrong grammar, wrong typos, or wrong word choices.

But hopefully it won’t affect your reading experience too much. It would be my pleasure to receive your feedback, comments, or suggestions about what I’m doing wrong and how I could improve it.

My writing style

My writing style regarding technical posts would be more like a note, as short as possible, with a lot of bullet points and numbered lists.

I want it to be easy to scan to quickly get the information I need without too many characters (except on this first page) that could be easily ignored by the readers.

I gathered it through my reading experience, always scanning the entire post to see if it had what I needed before carefully reading the details. As a result, I hoped that my blog posts would be useful in this regard, making them as short and valuable as I could.
